Getting to Know Your Kids

👩 Helping your children grow through their eyes 👩

I thought as my wee fairy doors are all about children, their development, magic and also parenting that I would share some insights that I have learnt over the years. Some read, some advice I have received and of course chats with friends.

My first child rearing tip is - 𝕒 𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕕'𝕤 𝕕𝕒𝕪 🧒

Give your child a day of their choice. On this day they get to pick what you do e.g an activity, watching a movie, what's for dinner, bath or shower, washing hair through to the bedtime story. If they are capable, let them take charge of dinner otherwise guide them to use peelers, knives etc. This is great for developing motor skills and also learning to cook - get the boys into it!

To avoid instant disappointment, you may need to set boundaries first such as no electronic devices for the 𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓻𝓮 day.

By giving your children 'their' day, it gives you insight to what they like, helps with their decision making which can be hard in itself and as mentioned, improves their motor skills. It also gives you insight to what they may struggle with, not just in the kitchen but throughout their day and you can problem solve with them, help them grow. Of course it's wonderful for bonding.

It would be great to have one day a week, but depending on how many kids you have and what your schedule allows, don't over promise this (the kids will be excited) but schedule one child once a week or once a fortnight, what ever works for you.
